Alleviating the Threat of Terrorism Department of Psychology faculty members Arie Kruglanski and Michele Gelfand were awarded a prestigious 2011 Minerva Research Initiative grant by the Department of Defense. The Office of Naval Research will execute the grant of $4.5 million over five years. The project focuses on innovative ways to address radicalization with the goal of alleviating the threat of terrorism. Professor Kruglanski will serve as the principal investigator of the project, with Professor Gelfand serving as co-investigator.

GVPT Student Meets with Top Foreign Affairs Experts
College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) student Marvin Mathew, who studies government and politics, was selected to represent the University of Maryland at the Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference. There, he met and participated in Q&A sessions with foreign affairs experts, including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman and former Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Wolfowitz (pictured with Mathew). Mathew also was given the opportunity to engage with a cadre of 150 top students from the Naval Academy and from around the around the world, along with 20 Fulbright Scholars. Read more...
