- Study of territorial disputes as a cause of international conflict and war
in the 20th century.
- Study of the impact of international law on the resolution of international
disputes.
- Study of how political institutions in democratic and non-democratic systems
affect the escalation and resolution of international disputes.
- Study of the wartime consequences of armed conflict for civilian populations
in the 20 th century with a particular focus on the mass killing and forced migration
of civilian populations.
- Study of the longer-term public health consequences for countries that are
involved in interstate and civil wars.
- Study of the domestic and international political determinants of varying
levels of public health performance across countries.
- Study of the impact of international multilateral peace-building efforts
in post-civil war countries with a focus on restoration of public health conditions.
- Study of when domestic political unrest affects the foreign policy choices
of state leaders with empirical research on the Middle East and Imperial Japan.
