All students are encouraged to visit the Advising Office at least once a semester. It is an excellent source of major-related information, including materials about internships, study abroad programs, career suggestions, graduate/law schools, etc.
Advising is especially important for students who wish to select supportive courses that enhance their post-graduation employment potential. In addition to the departmental advisors, faculty members are available during their posted office hours to advise students within their particular fields.

The GVPT Advising Office would like to remind students of the following
registration policies. Please keep them in mind as you finalize your schedule.
Pre-requisite Policy
The Government and Politics Department enforces all pre-requisites. Students
must have successfully completed a pre-requisite the semester before registering
for any class. The Government and Politics Department reserves the right to drop
students who are missing the pre-requisite from the course without notice. Click
here (.xls) for an updated list of course prerequisites.
GVPT Course Restriction Policy
Government and Politics majors are allowed to take a maximum of 3 GVPT courses
per fall and spring semester. All other majors are restricted from taking no
more than 1 GVPT course per semester. The advising office makes no exceptions
to this policy.
Oversubscription Policy
In accordance with BSOS College policy, the Government and Politics Department
does not oversubscribe students to any GVPT courses. Students are encouraged
to sign up for all courses on their registration date, and must complete any
mandatory advising or remove any other registration block BEFORE their registration
appointment. Students should remain on waitlists and remember to check in every
day during schedule adjustment to ensure they do not lose their spot on the waitlist.
