A political philosopher by training, Professor Ward’s research focuses on the intersections of Democratic Theory, Religious Studies, and Critical Thought. He is completing a book manuscript entitled Democracy After Secularism: Negotiating Patterns of Religious Difference, Political Domination, and Civic Solidarity. His articles have appeared in the journals Polity and The Good Society, and he is the author of the entry on the Public Sphere in the forthcoming 8-volume edition of the Blackwell Encyclopaedia of Political Thought. He has also contributed reviews to Perspectives on Politics, The Journal of Religion, The Journal of Church and State, and Ethics and International Affairs.
Ward teaches courses in the history of political thought and contemporary political theory, with a special emphasis on social criticism, democratic theory and practice, and religion in the public sphere.
A citizen of Canada, he hails from Sudbury, Ontario, and holds a BA(Hon) from McGill and a PhD from Princeton.
