Honors Program
Note: The African American Studies Department's abbreviation has been changed to AASD, however, our courses will retain the AASP acronym for the meantime.
The Honors Program, an outgrowth of the quality research and scholarship offered by AASD, offers a challenging curriculum to the outstanding, mature undergraduate interested in the pursuit of advanced study of the African-American experience.
The Honors program in African American Studies offers the exceptional student smaller, in-class teacher-to-student ratios; interdisciplinary study focus; experiential learning exercises; and enhanced involvement in the learning process. Lectures, seminars and instruction from the area's finest academic and industry leaders expose students to the demands of a scholarly and creative approach to academic examination. In order to further promote the development of this special group, the AASD honors students who reside on campus may be housed with other UMCP honors students in specifically designated Honors residence halls or on honor's floors in residence halls.
