African American Studies Department (AASD)

The Society of African American Studies was established with the sole purpose of enlightening and educating the campus and surrounding community about African American issues, debates, culture and heritage.

The Society of African American Studies understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by University of Maryland College Park policies.

The Society is a student-run organization out of the Department of African American Studies that coordinates events and community service activities to further the knowledge and awareness of the African American community at the University of Maryland and the society at large.

The Society of African American Studies will be coordinating a community service project for the 2011Spring semester.

We had a great 2009-2010 school year and a extraordinary Fall semester and are looking forward to a semester that will be equally exciting. We have many things planned and are enthusiastic about the opportunities students will have this year to continue to develop themselves into well-rounded scholars.
