The College of Behavioral & Social Sciences is the largest college on campus in terms of the numbers of students it serves. Approximately one out of every five undergraduate students you encounter on our campus is a behavioral and social sciences major.

Majors

We offer four most popular majors on campus: criminology, psychology, government and politics, and economics. Other undergraduate majors include African American studies, anthropology, environmental science and policy, geography, geographic information science and computer cartography, hearing and speech sciences, and sociology.

Faculty

175 professors

We count among our faculty one Nobel Prize winner, one MacArthur Foundation Fellowship winner, and three National Academy of Sciences members.

Last year, our faculty brought in more than $55 million in research.

Rankings

The University of Maryland is ranked 10th in the country in social sciences by the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index and 18th in the world by the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
