Guillermo Calvo, Distinguished University
Professor, received his Ph.D. from Yale in 1974. Before joining the Maryland
faculty in 1994 he taught at several domestic as well as foreign universities,
most recently at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania.
In 1988-1993 he was Senior Advisor to the Research Department of the International
Monetary Fund. He is the Director of the Center for International Economics.
He has conducted research on a wide range of mainly macroeconomic topics.
In recent years his research interests have been in problems associated
with the transition of Eastern European countries from centrally planned
to market economies as well as in international capital flows and exchange
rate adjustments.
