Edward Montgomery, Dean, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Professor, received
his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1982. Prior to joining
the faculty at Maryland in 1990, he held positions at Michigan State University
in 1986-90 and at Carnegie Mellon University in 1981-86. He is a Research
Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He has served as
Deputy Secretary, Assistant Secretary for Policy, and Chief Economist at
the U.S. Department of Labor. He has also held positions as a Visiting
Scholar at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and the Federal
Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He was a member of the U.S. Department of Labor's
Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Benefits. His current research
centers on the effects of economic and social policy on labor market behavior.
