Carmen M. Reinhart, Professor, received
her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1988. She came to the University
of Maryland in l996 from the Research Department of the International Monetary
Fund. At the department, she teaches a graduate course on international
finance and open economy macro courses at the school of Public Affairs.
Professor Reinhart is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic
Research and on the editorial boards of the American Economic Review
and the Journal of International Economics, among others. Her
recent research has focused on currency and banking crises, international
capital flows, capital controls, exchange rate regimes and household consumption.
Recent publications in these areas include: "Capital Flows to Developing
Countries in the 1990s: Causes and Effects" (with G. Calvo and L. Leiderman),
