Email: paulwon@refraction.org
Paul Wonnacott was on the faculty from 1962 until 1992, teaching
international economics at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and
macroeconomics to undergraduates. For a number of years, he taught the large
introductory class in macroeconomics.
His most important publication was Free Trade between the United States and
Canada: The Potential Economic Effects, published in the Harvard Economic
Studies Series in 1967. This study helped to set the background for the
U.S.-Canadian free trade agreement of 1989.
His publications include a joint paper with one of his Ph.D. students, Mark
Lutz, "Is There a Case for More Free Trade Areas?" in Jeff Schott, ed., Free
Trade Areas and U.S. Trade Policy, Washington: Institute for International
Economics, 1989, pp. 59-89. This was reprinted in abridged form in Economic
Impact, U.S. Information Agency, 4, 1989, pp. 26-32, and is scheduled to be
reprinted in a forthcoming volume on Free Trade Areas by the World Bank.
Mr. Wonnacott served as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers,
1991-93.
In retirement, he has tried his hand as a novelist. His Last Good War
focusses on allied codebreaking, and is midway between a novel and a
history. Details at
