The Department of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park anticipates filling junior and/or senior faculty openings beginning August 2008. We welcome applications in all fields. Candidates at the rank of Associate or Full Professor level must have attained international prominence in their field. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have a Ph.D. already in hand, or firmly expected by August 2008, and should show promise of significant scholarship and teaching ability.

Business Manager, Position (104518)

STARTING SALARY: Mid $40’s

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Economics is seeking a self-starting, energetic Business Manager to manage and maintain the department’s business operations. The person in this position is responsible for managing and monitoring the financial transactions of the department regardless of fund source. In addition, the individual will work collaboratively with faculty, assisting principal investigators with the standard post award grant management. The individual also will be responsible for all Personnel and Human Resources (ARS/PHR) processing for the department (i.e. new hires, benefits, and tuition remission). The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, staff, and students on all department business functions.  Must be able to work independently, possess strategic and analytical skills, and be able to interact effectively with diverse constituencies (administrators, faculty, staff, and students).  Successful candidate will also have strong organizational and customer service skills, as well as the ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines in a challenging, fast-paced environment.  (S)he will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable with MS Office.  Knowledge of other campus computer systems is helpful.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).  Must have 3 years of progressive experience working in an office environment specific to financial management (i.e. budgeting, accounting, banking, procurement, etc.).  Knowledge of University Policies and Procedures, related to fiscal and personnel management, as well as a general understanding of grants management and OMB circulars is preferred.
