Meet your Advisors

Dr. Ken Conca - Dr. Conca is an Associate Professor of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland. He came to Maryland after earning his Ph.D. from Berkeley in 1992. Dr. Conca is the Faculty coordinator of the ENSP Politics & Policy concentration, the Director of the Harrison Program on the Future Global Agenda, a Faculty Affiliate at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy and an associate editor of the academic journal Global Environmental Politics. His current research interests include: global environmental politics, the politics of water, globalization and social movements, and environmental challenges in war-torn societies. As the Faculty Coordinator for the Politics & Policy concentration, Dr. Conca's role is to provide 'strategic' long-term advice. He specializes in discussions about career paths, job opportunities, applying to and selecting graduate school/law school, and surviving college with your sanity and dignity intact, etc. He is available during walk-in hours and by appointment. Allison Berland Kaul - is a student in the University of Maryland Government and Politics Ph.D. program (subfields in Comparative Politics and Political Economy). Prior to starting the Ph.D. program, Allison worked for four years on the World Bank Nile Team, which supports the Nile Basin Initiative, a multi-country economic development and conflict management initiative of the ten riparian countries along the Nile river. Allison has also worked for an environmental dispute resolution organization. Her research interests include Comparative Political Economy of Development, Water, Environment and Development, and South Asian Domestic and Foreign Policy.

As Academic Advisor for the ENSP Politics & Policy concentration, the functions Allison performs include administrating registration, course selection, charting a course to graduation, clearing blocks, processing course substitution requests, registering for internships, and completing graduation clearances.
