Graduate School in Public Policy

Most public policy degrees involve two-year programs, often with a required internship in the summer after the first year. Many policy schools allow students to develop areas of specialized expertise (typically in the second year, after a year of general course work on policy analytic methods, quantitative techniques, writing, and other policy-relevant skills). Programs that do not have a specific "environmental track" may nevertheless have useful courses, and most will allow students to take courses offered by other campus departments and programs. According to U.S. News and World Report, top environmental policy programs in the United States can be found at the following schools:

Indiana University–Bloomington
Duke University
Harvard University
University of California–Berkeley
University of Washington
Syracuse University
University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill
University of Maryland–College Park
Carnegie Mellon University

Programs with strong reputations are also available at Johns Hopkins University, Princeton, USC, Yale, and the University of Texas.
