01/26/07 - ENSP P&P: scholarships event, study abroad awards, Dean's advisory council, drop-add, office hours TO: ENSP Politics and Policy (P&P) students Welcome back to campus! I hope you all had a great holiday season and that you are refreshed for another fruitful semester. Here are five announcements for you: 1 - The drop-add period ends on Tuesday February 6th, which will be the last day of schedule adjustment. 2 - A Scholarship Awareness Event will take place in the Visitor Center Auditorium on February 1, 5-7:00pm, with Foundation representatives who will present information on the David Boren, Mitchell, Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, and Fulbright programs. The seating is limited and you are asked to RSVP by January 31 at www.scholarships.umd.edu/SAErsvp.html For more information, see the first attachment. [Rodrigo will also provide upon request.] 3 - Study abroad awards have been made available for the second year by an alumnus of the University, Erik B. Young, M.D. (B.S. Chemistry, 1962), who has generously established a fund to support students travelling abroad to enhance their undergraduate experience. There will be four International Travel-Study Abroad Awards with stipends of $2,000 each awarded for the 2007-2008 year. Any hard copies of application materials should be dropped with Peggy Marks in the BSOS Dean's Office (2nd floor of Tydings). Applications are due on February 2, 2007 as posted on the attached announcements and form. [Rodrigo will also provide upon request.] 4 - The BSOS Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC) is looking for an ENSP Student Member. The student who had been representing ENSP on the DASC graduated this December 2006. If you are interested in this open post to serve on DSAC for Spring 2007, please contact Ms. Katherine Smith, BSOS Coordinator for Communications and Special Projects by email at ksmith[at]bsos.umd.edu 5 - Office hours for Dr. Conca during this Spring 2007 semester are Tuesdays 2:00-3:15, Thursdays 11:00-12:15, or by appointment.
