10/12/05 - ENSP P&P Meeting: Career in Development

TO: ENSP Politics and Policy students
FROM: Rodrigo Pinto

Many of you have responded positively to Dr. Conca's question about interest in his idea to host an informal meeting on pursuing a career in the field of international development. We have thus decided to make this the substantive theme of our ENSP P&P Fall semester career conversation. We also expect that even those of you not considering careers in international development would likely benefit from the tips and advice that are bound to be offered on professional life outside the university in general. This on top of the opportunity to mingle with fellow P&P'ers while enjoying free pizza and suitable beverages.

Who?
-Barbara Brakarz, M.A. (WB/IBRD--World Bank) (primary multilateral bank active in development projects and programs worldwide)
-Barbara Knox-Seith, Ph.D. (USAID--U.S. Agency for International Development) (the U.S. government agency with primary responsibility for foreign aid and development projects)
-Gabriela Reyes (IADB--Inter-American Development Bank) (oldest and largest regional multilateral development bank)

When?
October 25th (Tuesday) at 7 p.m.

Where?
3100 Tydings Hall (3rd floor BSOS Lounge)

Please let us hear from you by October 21st (Friday) if you plan to attend so that we can order enough pizzas and beverages. Because our meeting will flow in Q&A format, specific questions you anticipate asking would also be appreciated so that our guest development professionals can best prepare to be useful to you. Please submit two (2) questions that you will be asking along with your RSVP to Rodrigo (hit reply or e-mail rpinto[at]gvpt.umd.edu ).

Hoping to see you on the 25th,
ENSP P&P Advisors
