Responsibilities
Faculty must ensure that the structure and content of their courses are consistent with the course descriptions in the current editions of the
Undergraduate Catalog
and
Schedule of Classes
.
Faculty members have an obligation to make students aware of their expectations, the course's grading methods and all important course deadlines. This information and a statement about academic integrity should be included in the course syllabus, which should be distributed on the first day of class.
When an instance of academic dishonesty is suspected, faculty members have an obligation to notify the Student Honor Council (4-8204).
Faculty members are expected to maintain high standards of scholarship and remain current in their respective fields.
In the classroom, faculty members are expected to create an environment that builds bridges between the instructor's knowledge and the students' learning.
Faculty members are expected to return the first exam or paper before the last day to drop a course with a "W" (please note that the last day to drop with a "W" is usually the first day of the tenth week of classes). Faculty members who are teaching a 100-200 level course are expected to have had a graded assignment by the time mid-semester grades are posted (seventh week of class).
Faculty members and graduate assistants are expected to be available during their posted office hours unless notice is given prior to an absence.
Faculty members must adhere to their assigned examination date and time, which is posted
online
.
Faculty members must not develop intimate, nonprofessional relationships with their students.
Faculty members are required to create a learning environment in which students feel their views are respected.
Faculty members are expected to accommodate students with documented disabilities in an appropriate manner.
