The department is pleased to announce that two GVPT students were selected as winners of the 2013 Library Award for Undergraduate Research. Molly Brune, a senior, was selected for her paper entitled “Political Survival as a Motive in Decision-Making: The UNHCR and the Rwandan Refugee Crisis”. Paul Tumulty, also a senior, was chosen for his research on the topic “Rocky Relations: Protests, Nationalism, and Possible Conflict Amid the Diaoyu Islands Dispute”. Congratulations, Molly and Paul!
GVPT junior Benjamin Kramer was selected as a winner of The Winston Family University Honors Best Student Paper Awards for the 2012-2013 academic year. Ben’s paper is entitled “Power and Pragmatism: Lyndon B. Johnson: Hill Country Politico to Congressman, 1908-1941”. Well done, Ben!
Two GVPT seniors, Jacqueline Crowell and Zachary Cohen, were selected as finalists for the Undergraduate Byrd Citizenship Prizes and Wilson H. Elkins Award. These prestigious awards are presented to students who have displayed outstanding involvement and leadership in campus activities and have contributed significantly to the general advancement of the interests of the University. We are proud to have Jackie and Zach recognized as finalists.
Jennifer Spangler, a senior in GVPT, has been selected as a Philip Merrill Presidential Scholar for 2013-2014. The Merrill Presidential Scholars Program honors the University of Maryland’s most successful seniors and their designated University faculty and K-12 teachers for their mentorship.
