“Angelitos Negros” - 1974 Choreography: Donald
McKayle
Created in a much
different historical context than the present one, this dance was originally
created in order to explore the question: why does no one paint black
angels? The work represents both a desire/a demand as well as a reflection.
The dance characterizes the emotions surrounding exclusion from the
perspective of the excluded. It also speaks of a redemption that might
be obtained when one is given life through being seen; giving light
to the divinity that exists within all of us. |
