Graduate Women in Government and Politics: The Graduate Women in Government and Politics group began a few years ago as a monthly, informal gathering for graduate students in the Department of Government and Politics to discuss concerns specific to female graduate students. In the past, discussion topics have included gender-related concerns of graduate students, career advice from current faculty within our department, and non-academic career options. We host outside speakers from outside of academia for career forums and invite speakers from the larger university community to discuss both career and gender related issues. The group also serves as an informal intermediary between graduate students and the department administration to address gender-related concerns in the department. The group is also a vehicle for the dissemination of information related to jobs, publication opportunities and conferences for female graduate students. All GVPT graduate students are invited to attend meetings.
