BSOS/GVPT333 is a multidisciplinary course examining the challenges new Information technologies, notably the Internet, pose for society.  During this six-week course we will assess the political, social, economic, legal and ethical implications of the Information Technology explosion.  While particular emphasis will be given to the impact of IT on American society, we will also explore the IT explosion comparatively, recognizing it as a global phenomenon, and assessing the international impact of new information technologies.  We will discuss the socio-political implications of a variety of IT topics including the Digital Divide, E-commerce, on-line communities and social networks, government censorship, privacy (encryption and workplace surveillance), "e-crimes," and cyber-terrorism.
