VIRGINIA HAUFLER
Virginia Haufler received her Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University in 1991.
She is affiliated with the Harrison Program on the Future Global Agenda, and the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland.
She teaches courses in international relations and international political economy, with a special focus on the influence of multinational corporations.
Her research examines the role of the private sector in global governance, the global regulation of industry, and the rise of industry self-regulation and corporate social responsibility. She is currently writing a book on corporations and conflict prevention, and launching a new project (with Deborah Avant) on the security strategies of non-state actors.
From 1999-2000 she was a Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she directed a project on the role of the private sector in international affairs.
She serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF/ HSFK), and has served on the Board of Women in International Security (WIIS). She has consulted for both international organizations and the non-profit sector.
