Undergraduate Advising

The Advising Office is generally open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Office provides advising on a daily, walk-in basis.

Walk-ins

Walk-in advising hours for the week are posted on the Bulletin Board outside of 3104 Tydings Hall or may be obtained on our Weekly Advising Schedule page.

Walk-ins are the primary way students meet with advisors, especially during registration times. Unless you have extensive questions about your degree or other opportunities in the office, you should take advantage of our extensive walk-in schedule.

Appointments

To make an appointment please email advising@gvpt.umd.edu with a time or times that you are available for an appointment.

Appointments are generally reserved for questions about internships, study abroad, career suggestions, etc. Please be specific about what you need to discuss when making an appointment, so the advising office can inform you of any special materials or information you need to bring with you to the appointment.

For general advising questions, send an email to: advising@gvpt.umd.edu

Undergraduate Advising

All students are encouraged to visit the Advising Office at least once a semester. It is an excellent source of major-related information, including materials about internships, study abroad programs, career suggestions, graduate/law schools, etc. Advising is especially important for students who wish to select supportive courses that enhance their post-graduation employment potential. In addition to the departmental advisors, faculty members are available during their posted office hours to advise students within their particular fields.

Audits

Every student MUST complete an audit. Students should complete this audit during their junior year. The purpose of the audit is to identify any departmental or university requirements for graduation which have not yet been completed.

To initiate an audit, stop by GVPT Advising in Tydings Hall, talk to an advisor, and complete the departmental audit. Or, go online to Degree Navigator, located on Testudo and complete the Audit Worksheet then bring your completed worksheet to GVPT Advising.  Once this is complete, students should go to the BSOS Advising Office in 2148 Tydings for the completion of the audit.

FAILURE TO COMPLETE AN AUDIT COMPLETED COULD RESULT IN THE DELAY OF A STUDENT'S INTENDED GRADUATION DATE.
