Summer Courses

Planning on sticking around College Park this summer?  Why not get a few of your GVPT requirements out of the way?  The summer semesters are a great time to take GVPT courses because the class sizes are smaller and topics are unique, most summer courses are not offered during the fall or spring.  Check Testudo for a complete listing of all the courses being offered this summer in the GVPT Department.

Public Policy Internship

The Public Policy Internship Program will be offered for the Summer 2007 Session II.  The course will be taught online, enabling students to participate in internships across the country, or even around the world.  The normal requirements for the program remain (minimum of a 3.0 GPA, student must be a registered GVPT major with Junior status, and the internship must be concurrent with the course).  You must intern at least from July 16 - August 26.  For an application to the program, or for more information, email advising or stop by the Advising Office.

We at the GVPT office would like to take this space to honor those among us that have earned recognition this semester.  Feel free to congratulate these amazing folks on their accomplishments.

*UPDATE*

Many of our summer internship positions have been filled but we have openings for interns to start right away as well as openings for the fall.  With the primary sure to be competitive, a fall internship would truly be an unmatched experience for any student of politics or communications.

Part-Time Internship for this Summer

First Freedom First is a public policy project in support of the separation of church and state, focusing on issues where religion has taken a stake in the public debate. This summer, we are looking to organize a small team of unpaid interns to help collect petition signatures, and locally promote the project by canvassing at cool events around DC. This would be great for your resume and for a reference. There is room to work around your schedule and you can commit to as little as 5 hours per week.

Specifically, we would coordinate attending local events like Screen on the Green or Washington Nationals games, and we would also be happy for you to design posters and flyers for the project to distribute and post around the city and metro area. You will be given other reasonable creative control over your work in order to apply your personal interests to helping First Freedom First

It would be a great line on your resume that you assisted with outreach in a national public policy project, and as a recent college graduate myself, we should be able to work with you to make the experience enjoyable and productive. Plus, it’s only a few hours a week.
