The Mary Elizabeth Roby Scholarship

The Mary Elizabeth Roby Scholarships are two academic scholarships worth $2000 each that the Department of Government & Politics will be awarding to the two top female applicants based on the criteria below. This honor was established in 1965 by the university’s Women's Republican Club and is awarded annually to the two top female applicants, with preference given to citizens of Prince Georges County. The monetary prize will be divided on the basis of financial need.

o apply, please submit the following materials to GVPT Advising in 3104 Tydings Hall by the end of the business day on March 9, 2009:

  • At least one letter of recommendation from a GVPT faculty member.
  • A short essay analyzing any political issue of interest (no longer than 4 pages plus references and footnotes, typed, double-spaced).
  • A resume highlighting campus and/or community activities you have participated in since attending UMCP.
  • Statement of financial need (a brief summary and a print out of your financial aid package from the Office of Student Financial Aid is acceptable.)

You must indicate whether or not you are a P.G. County Resident.

We encourage all students with strong academic records to apply! All application materials for the award must be submitted in a single packet by March 9, 2009.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted!
