Collaborators and Friends

Sandra I. Oba

Sandy Oba was formerly Advanced Research Associate in the Chatterjee lab at House Ear Institute. She was involved with experiments on MDI and stochastic resonance in cochlear implant listeners. She is now working with Dr. Qian-Jie Fu at House Ear Institute.

Anastasios Sarampalis

Tassos did his first post-doc with Monita. The work involved explortions of modulation coding by the electrically stimulated auditory system, particularly MDI at low rates. He is now doing a post doc in Erv Hafter's lab at the University of California, Berkeley, CA.

Mark E. Robert

Mark E. Robert

Mark is Scientific Programmer in the Dept. of Auditory Implants and Perception at House Ear Institute, and has worked with Monita on various projects. He continues as a consultant providing software support for the lab at UMD.

John J. Galvin

John is the MVP of the labs in the Dept. of Auditory Implants and Perception at House Ear Institute. He is consulting for our lab at UMD as an expert on all things experimental.

Bob Caricature

Robert V. Shannon

Bob is the Head of the Dept. of Auditory Implants and Perception at House Ear Institute. He is our unofficial Guru of all things, Implant and Otherwise (particularly the making of a good margarita).

John M. McManamey

John has had a cochlear implant for many years, and has a strong and abiding interest in CI research. He has participated in numerous experiments in various labs over the years. The CIP Lab views John more as a collaborator than a research participant: many useful conversations with him have informed and enhanced our research over the years.

Qian-Jie Fu (picture coming soon)

Qian-Jie Fu is at present Scientist II and Section Chief, Speech Technology and Hearing Research in the Department of Auditory Implants and Perception at House Ear Institute. He has made numerous contributions to our understanding of speech perception by cochlear implant listeners. Qian-Jie is a valued colleague and friend.

Robert L. Smith (picture coming soon)

Bob Smith (http://www.isr.syr.edu/faculty/smith.html) was one of Monita's mentors at the Institute for Sensory Research, Syracuse University (http://www.isr.syr.edu/). He is known in our field for his work on models of auditory-nerve adaptation. In recent years, his interests have turned toward cochlear implant psychophysics. He has been and continues to be a great colleague, mentor and friend

Deniz Baskent (picture coming soon)

Deniz Baskent is Assistant Professor at the University Medical Center at Groningen in the Netherlands . Prior to this position, she was Research Scientist at the Starkey Hearing Research Center at Berkeley , CA . At present, Deniz collaborates with the CIP Lab on projects relating to phonemic restoration. For more information about her, please visit her website at http://www.dbaskent.org/

Rob Morse (picture coming soon)

Robert Morse is presently at Aston University in the UK . Dr. Morse conducts research on beneficial effects of introducing noise into cochlear implant signals, specifically via phenomena such as stochastic resonance. For more information on his work, visit his website at http://www1.aston.ac.uk/lhs/staff/audiologystaff/robertmorse/
