Language Development & Perception Laboratories
The language perception and development laboratories focus on how the brain processes spoken language, and how this changes with development.

In particular, we are interested in the following issues:

  • How the brain segments words from fluent speech
  • How the brain accesses words from memory
  • How the brain compensates for variability in the speech signal, caused by differences in talkers and speaking rate
  • How we separate different streams of speech, and pay attention to a particular one

We study these issues both with adult participants and with young infants, in order to examine how these abilities change across the lifespan.
