The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences (CAA-accredited) invites applicants for a tenure
track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, beginning August 2011. This is a position
for a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Speech-
Language Pathology. Responsibilities include establishing an independent research program,
teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, and participating in
departmental and university activities.
Required qualifications include earned doctorate (Ph.D) in speech-language pathology, speech science,
or related area. Expertise in voice/resonance, swallowing, neuromotor, or oral facial disorders, and/or
speech production/physiology is a primary consideration. But other areas of expertise may be
considered. Applicants should demonstrate a publication record, teaching experience, and history of
external funding commensurate with level of appointment. Preferred qualifications: expertise in
voice/resonance, dysphagia, neuromotor, oral facial disorders, and/or speech production/physiology are
preferred but other areas may be considered; Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-
Language Pathology.
The successful candidate must provide evidence of research productivity, and demonstrate the
potential to establish an independent research program capable of attracting external support.
Responsibilities include conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses,
mentoring graduate students, and participating in departmental and university activities.
Salary is negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience.
The department offers B.A., M.A., Au.D., and Ph.D. degrees and is one of the largest Hearing and
Speech programs in the mid-Atlantic region (web page: http://www.hesp.umd.edu). It enjoys campus-wide
research ties with the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NACS) Program and the Departments of
Linguistics, Special Education, Human Development, and Psychology. The campus is home to the Center for Comparative and Evolutionary Biology of Hearing (C-CEBH) and inter-disciplinary
programs in Language Sciences as well as a new NACS-MD neuroimaging center. The College Park
campus is located in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area in close proximity to numerous
world-renowned medical institutions and research facilities including the NIH, Walter Reed Army
Medical Center, the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
