Current Research and Teaching Interests:

As a cross-cultural organizational psychologist, my research seeks to illustrate what is universal and culture-specific regarding organizational behavior. This work is driven by my concern that the science of organizational psychology has been largely developed and tested in Western contexts, which only accounts for roughly 30% of humankind (Triandis, 1994). Even as organizations continue to operate in a global arena, the science of organizational psychology is still "culture-bound" (i.e., has its roots in Euro-American thought and traditions) and "culture-blind" (i.e., tends to ignore culture in its theories and research) (Smith & Bond, 1999). As Barrett and Bass (1976) noted 20 years ago, this places limits on both our theories and our practical advice to organizations.
