Current Research and Teaching Interests:

Charles J. Gelso (Professor), received his M.S. from Florida State University in 1964 and his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1970. His interests include the client - therapist relationship in therapy (including phenomena such as working alliance, client transferance, and therapist countertransferance), the application of psychoanalytic concepts to short - term and long - term counseling, and the research training environment in graduate education. He is a licensed psychologist in Maryland. (CO)  Research interests focus on the client-therapist relationship in psychotherapy and counseling; the process of psychotherapy; the research training environment in graduate education; psychoanalytic therapy. Current courses taught include, at the graduate level, courses on therapy research methods, practica on inidividual counseling, and on psychodynamic counseling and at the undergrad level, intro to counseling psychology, and adult psychopathology.
