Research
I am interested in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology and will be investigating the temporal response characteristics of auditory neurons in the mouse CNS. The same sound stimuli used to characterize responses from auditory neurons in the bat will be presented to the mouse. Extracellular recordings in the inferior colliculus, superior colliculus and the auditory cortex of the mouse will then be compared to those of the bat. The results will address the following question: Is two-sound-delay-tuning the exclusive domain of a specialized auditory system that supports echolocation, or is it a more general response characteristic of the auditory systems of many mammals?
