The Schizophrenia Research Training Program (SRTP) is funded by an Institutional National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Mental Health. The SRTP is a predoctoral training program designed to develop future schizophrenia researchers capable of translating basic behavioral, cognitive, developmental, and neuroscience principles into research on the psychopathology of schizophrenia. The SRTP is part of the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Maryland, College Park, and trainees complete the full clinical program training in addition to the specialized training in schizophrenia research provided by the SRTP.
This program is designed for students with academic research career goals. It is not suited for students primarily interested in clinical careers.
A cornerstone of the SRTP is the opportunity for Fellows to train with schizophrenia researchers from a range of disciplines and settings. Mentors represent a diverse array of schizophrenia research including assessment and diagnosis, detection of risk for the development of schizophrenia, emotion and stress reactivity, ethics, neuropsychological, neuropharmacology, neuroimaging, psychophysiology, social impairment and psychosocial remediation, sex differences, substance abuse, trauma and victimization.
Students interested in the SRTP need to apply to the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Within their application materials, applicants should clearly indicate their interests and experience in psychopathology research with reference to the SRTP training goals and faculty. Since the SRTP is part of the Clinical Program, applicants should also indicate how their goals fit with the overall philosophy of the Clinical Program. See the main Psychology Department web page for application details. The deadline for applications to the graduate program is December 1.
