Featured Faculty Member: Dr. Hal Sigall
| Dr. Harold Sigall, a member of the faculty in Social Psychology, served as interim chair of the Department of Psychology from July 2006 through June 2007. He has been a member of the faculty since 1972 and served as graduate director from 2000-2006. He chaired the campus Institutional Review Board from 1994-1997. |
Dr. Sigall's main current research interests are in self-presentation, stereotyping and optimism. He is interested in a variety of problems in self-presentation, including the perceived morality of self-presentation and relationship between self-construal and self-presentation. His interests in stereotyping are in the measurement of stereotypes and related constructs, and in understanding responses to positive stereotypes. He is also interested in distinguishing the antecedents and consequences of realistic optimism from those of wishful thinking.
