Research and Teaching Interests:
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach in May 2005. Under the direction of Dr. Carl Lejuez, I will be a first year student in Fall 2005. My general area of research interest is in the etiology of substance use and comorbid psychopathology. Specifically, throughout my career, I would like to explore the heterogeneity of the substance abusing population by examining cognitive, personality, psychophysiological, and psychosocial factors and how they interact depending on the type of comorbidity presented. I would also like to explore how such interactions might affect treatment outcomes and to use this knowledge to assist with better prevention and intervention methods. I will be working with Dr. Lejuez on a NIDA grant which examines how risk-taking propensity may prospectively predict HIV-risk and other types of risk behaviors in children. I hope to also explore through this study the interactive nature of parent and child risk-taking propensity and psychopathology.
