Research and Teaching Interests:
Prof. Robert M. Steinman, (SNAPP Area Head and Chairman of CNSD) received his Ph.D. in 1964 from the Graduate Faculty of New School University. He is interested in human oculomotor performance, hand/eye/hand coordination in 3-D space, the role of eye movements in vision and in cognitive processes and the perception of motion. His laboratory contains a unique, revolving magnetic field head/eye monitor that permits highly accurate binocular measurements of the directions of gaze with respect to nearby objects with the head and torso free from restraint. His research on the perception of motion, particularly the "phi phenomenon", can be seen at the website of Prof. Zygmunt Pizlo; a former student and collaborator at Purdue.
