Background Information Dr. Daughters received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland in 2005 following completion of her clinical internship at the Brown University School of Medicine. She recently joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland as a Research Assistant Professor and serves as the Director of the Addictions Division of the Basic Processes in Addictive Behaviors Laboratory.
Research Interests
Dr. Daughters applies a translational research approach towards the integration of basic research and clinical practice in the understanding of addictive disorders. Her primary research interests include (1) examining distress tolerance as a predictor of early treatment dropout and relapse across addictive disorders (illicit drug use, gambling), (2) distress tolerance as predictor of the development and persistence of substance use among adolescents, and (3) the use of behavioral activation strategies in the context of standard substance abuse treatment for patients with elevated depressive symptoms. She has been awarded a NIDA R03 grant that will provide funding for a study aimed at examining the role of distress tolerance in early treatment dropout.
