Research and Teaching Interests:
Ty Tashiro received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2004. His program of research translates basic science findings from social psychology into interventions for interpersonal problems commonly dealt with in therapy settings. One line of research applies findings on the functional nature of emotions to novel intervention components in couples’ therapy. A second line of research, based on self-concept theories, investigates the possibility that distress experienced following relationship dissolution or divorce provides opportunities for personal growth that can enhance future relationships. The third area of research translates findings on associative network theory and emotion into interventions for mood and anxiety disorders. His teaching interests include courses on psychometrics and interpersonal relationships.
