Selection of Postdoctoral Trainees

We anticipate selecting two postdoctoral trainees each year. Potential postdoctoral trainees must first contact a faculty mentor, directly or through the web site (http://www.nacs.umd.edu/research/index.cfm). The mentor may then propose the potential trainee's application to the Directors and Advisory Committee. Postdoctoral trainees are selected once each year (around December 15). This decision is made after the applicants have met with members of the Advisory Committee and the potential faculty mentor(s) at the annual meeting of the Society for Neurosciences or at the tri-annual meeting of the International Society for Neuroethology. While it is hard to define selection criteria of postdoctoral trainees, some criteria includes an interest in the themes of the research training program, the potential research project, ability of the research to extend across more than one laboratory in the program and the career plans of the potential trainee. Support will only be provided to individuals who are planning a career in research. In the interest of fairness, and in an attempt to stimulate interactions between participating laboratories, no laboratory may have more than one program supported postdoctoral trainee at a time.
