Research Opportunities for
Psychology Majors
Most faculty
members are actively engaged in research programs which can provide
valuable and interesting experiences for the student. Often, in
addition to working closely with an individual faculty member, the
undergraduate student (PSYC major) has an opportunity to work and
interact with other undergraduates, and with graduate students.
Various opportunities are available for research experience. The
Psychology Undergraduate Listserve is one source of possible
research positions on campus. Students may also contact individual
faculty and graduate students regarding research opportunities.
Credit may be
given for completing an independent study or participating in a
research project under PSYC 478 and 479. Permission of the
instructor supervising the project is needed to register for these
courses. Students who have identified a potential research position
(PSYC479) or an independent study opportunity (PSYC478) and would
like to get academic credit for this experience should obtain a
contract from the Undergraduate Psychology Office (1107 Bio-Psyc
Building). This contract outlines the requirements for the course.
The faculty member and the student sign the contract and return it
to the Undergraduate Psychology Office. Once the contract has been
approved, the student may then register for the course.

in your first nine credits. You must also supply a copy of the
written reports you submitted for each of your previous PSYC 478/479
courses and a reading (PSYC 478) or research (PSYC 479) plan for the
new course.
