Arab Attitudes towards Political and Social Issues, Foreign Policy and the Media
A Public Opinion Poll conducted jointly by Professor Shibley Telhami, Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development at the University of Maryland and Zogby International- October 2005
Countries included in poll: Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and United Arab Emirates. Polls were conducted in October 2005.
The survey results are reported in two documents, the first is weighted by demographics and population, the second is weighted only by demographics.
In addition to the demographic weights described in the methodology link provided below, the first document also reports the six countries weighted proportionately by population. This means that Egypt, with a population of 77, 505, 756 will have the greatest impact on the response results, followed by Morocco (32, 725, 847) Saudi Arabia (26, 417, 599) Jordan (5, 759, 732) Lebanon (3, 826, 018) and finally UAE (2, 563, 212). Because Egypt has twice the population of the next largest country – Morocco – it accounts for nearly 60% of the response rate in this version of the survey results.
The results reported in the second document have been weighted by certain demographic categories to more accurately reflect the make-up of each country’s population. For a detail of the categories used for each country please see the methodology link below. These survey results are not weighted by population, thus the impact of country on the overall survey results is relative to the number surveyed in that country. Therefore Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia (with 800 surveyed) all have equal impact on the response results, followed by Jordan and Lebanon (500 surveyed), and finally the UAE (218 surveyed).
