The Department of Sociology has twenty eight full-time faculty members and a number of affiliated faculty, comprised of scholars from diverse backgrounds and institutions, including the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Institute of Mental Health. All of the program areas are directed by well known scholars in their own field: Comparative Sociology (Meyer Kestnbaum), Demography (Harriet Presser); Development (Kurt Finsterbusch), Gender, Work, and Family (Suzanne Bianchi); Military Sociology (David Segal); Social Psychology (Melissa Milkie); Stratification (Bart Landry); and Theory (George Ritzer).
