Ulla
Larsen received her Ph.D. in Sociology
and Demography from Princeton University in 1985
and joined the faculty of the University of Maryland
in August 2004. Prior to coming to Maryland, Dr.
Larsen was an Associate Professor of Demography
in the Department of Population and International
Health in the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Larsen’s research focuses on methodological
and substantive issues related to reproductive
health and population problems. Her current research
includes a project designed to advance the understanding
of the prevalence and etiology of infertility,
and the cultural perceptions and social consequences
of infertility in Moshi in northern Tanzania.
In addition to her work in Tanzania, Dr. Larsen
is working on an infertility project in southern
Nigeria, as well as a project aimed at enhancing
the understanding of behavioral patterns of women
and men in Nigeria linked to increased risk of
STIs/HIV.
