The data for my classes SOCY601/SURV601 and SOCY602/SURV602 are available by selecting the appropriate link below. A few comments about the data. First, I only support SAS in these classes. Accordingly, the data are available as zipped SAS transport files. Second, there are four data sets named gss.*, states1.* county1.*, and ftyr1p90.*. The astrisk implies a different extension depending on the operating specific version of SAS you are using. Third, you can download the files I used to move these data sets from one computer to another. With minor changes you can tailor these programs to convert the transport files to a system specific SAS data file.

Here are the basic steps needed to use these data on another computer:
  • Click on the appropriate data set and download it to your computer.
  • Click on the SAS Transport Programs and download them.
  • Use pkunzip to unzip all the files on your hard drive.
  • Make minor changes to the SAS programs.
  • Run the programs to convert the transport files (*.xpt) to SAS system files.
  • Run some procedure like proc contents to check if the data were converted sucessfully.

If you don't have software to deal with zip archive files, please check out the following programs:

Winzip Archiving Software

Pkzip Archiving Software.
