Research Centers @ the Department of Sociology
The department works closely with several research centers and projects.
The
Maryland Population Research Center
(MPRC),
Joan Kahn, Associate Director, provides a multi-disciplinary setting for population research.
Among its projects, MPRC houses the
India Human Development Survey, directed by
Sonal Desai.
The
Center for Research on Military Organization,
David Segal, Director, studies the relationship between the military and society.
The
Center for Innovation, directed by
Jerald Hage, investigates how society and organizations change in response to new knowledge and learning.
Each of these research centers has a separate suite of offices, including secretarial support,
faculty and student offices, conference and data analysis rooms.
Collectively, these centers account for
several million dollars in annual research funding.
The Sociology Department is also affiliated with the interdisciplinary
Joint Program on Survey Methods (JPSM),
founded by Professor
Stanley Presser
and colleagues at the University of Michigan and Westat.
This program, which is funded by the federal statistical system,
provides additional resources and training to faculty and students
interested in survey research.
