Jencks: The Homeless

Jencks's macro evidence about men's long-term joblessness (no earnings):

"If we concentrate on the most vulnerable group of all -- those who had no spouse, extremely low income, and no earnings -- this group went from 1.5 percent of all working-age men in 1979 to 2.4 percent in 1989"

"These trends surely explain some of the increase in homelessness, but they are nothing like large enough to explain the entire problem.
